Amanda Holroyd For the summer before Cougar Quest Amanda plans on working at Fircrest Golf Club where she get hits often with golf balls. She will be attending a friend’s wedding as well as practicing her Spanish. She loves working out, playing and watching sports of any kind, traveling, spending money at Starbucks, hanging out with friends, acting goofy and wearing crazy outfits. Amanda also makes up her own dance moves and practices in front of mirrors. Her favorite TV show is The Bachel or/Bachel orette, and Family Guy. She loves foreign movies and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Her favorite music includes country, rock, oldies, rap, and the fabulous 80’s music. The last book she read for pleasure was Harry Potter. Amanda does not have any pets but her favorite food is ice cream and she loves to make chicken dishes. She is good at speaking spanglish and she spends her time doing too many things. She says it’s like she is two people. Amanda has visited Mexico and Canada and her favorite sport is Cougar football. Amanda says, “If I were an animal I’d be a Cougar because I already am one, it’s convenient.” |

Betsy Walker In five years Betsy will be saving the world somehow. But for now, before Cougar Quest begins she will be working at Nordstrom and visiting friends in Los Angeles and Arizona. Betsy’s favorite TV shows are Nip Tuck, Project Runway, Top Chef and Desperate Housewives. Her favorite movies are Mean Girls, Clueless, She’s All That, and Say Anything. Favorite music for Betsy includes Jack’s Mannequin, Angels and Airwaves, Brittney Spears, and The Rolling Stones. Betsy loves to just hang out, talk with friends, go shopping, read up on celebrity gossip, swim, and sing even though she says she’s really bad at it. The last book read for pleasure is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. She is re-reading all the Harry Potter books because she can’t wait for the next one. Betsy has two cats named Rocky and Sammy and she loves cats. Her favorite sports are college football and college basketball and her favorite food is Thai food. Betsy says, “I am good at making people laugh and I really like to laugh too.” |

Carlyn Zylstra Before Cougar Quest begins, Carlyn, whose nickname is car, will be working at a veterinary hospital, learning everything she’ll need to know to be a good doctor. When Carlyn grows up she wants to have a job as a veterinarian. So in five years she hopes to be starting her last year of veterinary school at WSU. Before Cougar Quest begins she also plans on catching up with friends and enjoying life without homework. Her favorite TV show is Grey’s Anatomy and her favorite movies include Almost Famous, The Princess Bride and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Carlyn’s favorite music is everything but she mostly enjoys Jack Johnson and Tom Petty. Listening to music, playing her guitar, being outside, spending time with her friends and all things WSU are Carlyn’s interests. Her favorite hobby however, is playing guitar because it relaxes her. Carlyn’s family has five pets. They are a cat named Tom and four dogs. Carlyn’s dog is named Jackson and he only has three legs. Carlyn enjoys making toast because she says it’s about all she can make without burning it. Her favorite food is sour patch kids and she is good at soccer. Carlyn’s motto is: “a stranger’s just a friend you haven’t met.” She thinks that it’s important to be outgoing and meet new people or else you’ll never know who you’re missing out on. “I spend most of my free time with my friends,” Carlyn says, “We always end up doing something ridiculous and laughing at it later.” |

When Chris grows up he wants to have a job as a film producer because he has always been fascinated with movies and would like to produce movies. However, in five years Chris thinks that in five years he will still look like he is 16 years old and be asked for ID when trying to get into R-rated movies. Growing up Chris played baseball, basketball and football and those are his favorite sports. When he isn’t playing those however he says he will probably be found working on his stamp collection. Chris’ hobby is stamp collecting and he says it is relaxing and rewarding at the same time. Chris’ favorite food is lasagna and he says it is so good because of the layers of meat, pasta, cheese, meat, pasta, cheese. The Office and the OC are his favorite TV shows, while Braveheart, Ocean’s 11 and Cinderella Man are his favorite movies. His favorite music is his friends’ music because he has a lot of friends in bands. Before Cougar Quest begins Chris plans on getting a tan so that his pale complexion doesn’t blind anybody. Chris’ motto is, “If you forget something it probably wasn’t meant to be remembered.” |

Daniel was born on June 24, 1985 in the Philippines to a young missionary couple. Growing up he spent as much time as possible playing in the great outdoors climbing trees, playing baseball and taking picnics, to name a few things. When Daniel turned 13 his family purchased a coffee shop that functioned as a drop-in center for at-risk youth. Before coming to Cougar Quest Daniel plans on volunteering at his parent’s coffee shop, working with local youth groups and having lots of summer fun. His experience in high school of helping troubled peers, playing sports and scholastic pursuits, taught him about true friendship. When he came to WSU Daniel spent two years running NCAA Division I Cross Country and Track. One of his hobbies is running with distance running being his favorite sport. He says you can learn a lot on the lonely road. His other hobbies are adventure sports and guitar. His favorite TV show is Wonder Years and his favorite movies are Big Fish, Luther, and Finding Neverland. Favorite music selections for Daniel are Keith Green, Yellowcard and Phantom of the Opera. The last book he read was the Count of Monte Cristo. He says it was fabulous. If he were an animal Daniel wants to be a seal because they look content and are playful. He is best in the evening when you can share the experiences of the day. “I spend my free time taking adventures,” Daniel says. “It is fun to go places, or do things that are random and out of the ordinary.” |

Buon Giorno! This means hello or “greetings” in Italian. Hannah will be traveling and studying abroad in Europe before Cougar Quest begins. She will be on a study abroad program in Rome, Italy and can tell you all about her amazing travel adventures at Cougar Quest. She will be visiting Rome, Italy, Greece and Austria. Hannah is studying to become an intelligence analyst. She hopes to one day work for the CIA. CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) is one of Hannah’s favorite TV shows. Her other favorites are That 70’s Show and reality TV. Her favorite movies are Pirates of the Caribbean and Tommy Boy. For music, Hannah enjoys alternative music such as Jack Johnson, as well as oldies and 80’s music. Golfing, baseball, travel, art, and camping are her interests. She also enjoys going to Mariner’s games, and hanging out with her wonderful friends and family. Hannah says, “I look forward to meeting all of you at camp, Ciao!” |

As a fifth year super senior Jarad hopes to teach 8 th, 11 th, or 12 th grade history when he finishes his degree. He spent his whole life in Walla Walla before coming to WSU and his hobbies include snow skiing, water skiing, tennis, sailing, golf and watching movies. His favorite movies are Ice Age, Wedding Crashers and The Goonies. His favorite TV shows are the Price is Right and Seinfeld. For music Jarad listens to anything and everything. The last book he read for pleasure was Tuesdays with Morrie. Jarad’s favorite sports are baseball, college basketball and skiing. He has met and played basketball with Ray Allen at the halftime of a Sonics game. Jarad says, “My motto is ‘carpe diem,’ seize the day.” |

Joel finished finals week strong and will visit Tacoma f or a couple days then come back to WSU to work at the Dining Centers until Cougar Quest begins. Joel decided to attend WSU because of the size and prestige of the university and because his mother and uncle are alumni. He loves being a Cougar and is proud of being a part of the Wazzu Film Club. This year Joel was a part of the Tunnel of Oppression and Murrow Symposium, events at the university. His favorite movies are Catch Me if You Can, The Shawshank Redemption and football movies. The Beach Boys are his all time fav orite music and he also likes Amber Pacific currently. His hobbies are piano, cooking, surfing, snowboarding, wake boarding, working out, sports, intramurals (pick up games), X-Box, and video editing, which is his favorite hobby. He loves baked asparagus, chicken with stuffing and gravy, and steak. His fav orite sports are football and basketball and says he’s not good at basketball but always tries hard and has fun even though he is usually the last one picked. If he were an animal, Joel says he would be an eagle because then he could fly. “As a Cougar Camp Counsel, I am proud and excited to work with smart and energetic youth and hope to have an amazing summer,” he says. |

John Asher John, whose nickname is Jasher, graduated from WSU last year and is looking forward to returning to Coug country. During the academic year he spends his time working for Fordham University in NYC. He spends his free time playing ultimate Frisbee, enjoying his X-box and making up songs on his guitar. He loves to travel and has been to 11 countries, including Japan. John loved that in Japan you can get sushi on every corner and that people are so nice. His favorite TV shows include Lost, West Wing, and Seinfeld. You can usually hear him singing along to Jason Mraz, Guster, and his all time favorite, Billy Joel. John’s favorite food is fondu because he is a big fan of cheese, and he is good at making people laugh by being goofy. When he grows up John wants to have a job as an explorer and wonders if you can still do that as a career. A famous person that he has met over the phone is Ewen McGregor. John worked for Ewen in London for two months when he interned abroad. Before Cougar Quest begins John plans on spending time with his family and friends. He says, “I can’t wait to meet you all; you’ll be amazed at how much fun we can have in one week!” |

Kayla grew up in a family of four with one older sister who was also a Cougar Quest Camp Counselor. With her family Kayla has traveled to many places over the years either by plane, sailboat, or by an RV (their favorite mode of transportation). Some of her favorite places she has been include Lake Chelan, Ocean Shores, Hawaii and The British Virgin Islands. In 8th grade Kayla saw Arnold Schwarzenegger in a Speedo while vacationing in Hawaii. Before Cougar Quest begins Kayla will volunteering as a cook at a Young Life Camp called Malibu Club in Canada. Ever since she was little she has enjoyed being outdoor in all kinds of weather. In the winter her favorite activities are snow ski, and sledding while in the summer she enjoys wakeboarding, playing tennis and soccer, and having tanning competitions with her friends. Kayla’s favorite TV show is Deal or No Deal and her favorite movie is Italian Job. Gavin DeGraw is her favorite musician. Her favorite dish is lasagna and for dessert she loves brownies. Kayla has one pet cat named Frank, who has one eye and one ear. Kayla is a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and hopes to own or manage her own restaurant and be the head Chef part time. Kayla says, “I’m at my best in the morning because I’m rested and excited to start the day!” |

Twenty year old Kyle has been attending WSU for two years now and hopes to graduate in two more. He enjoys snowboarding and wakeboarding, and poker. His favorite sports are baseball, football, tennis and basketball and his favorite hobby is playing poker (I joined the craze he says). Kyle also loves to cook and enjoys cooking anything he can put on a barbeque. His favorite food is sweet and sour chicken. Kyle’s favorite TV shows are The Family Guy, The Price is Right, and the Deadliest Catch. Favorite movies Kyle enjoys are Wedding Crashers, Almost Heroes and Holes. His favorite music is rock, rap and country. He says you name it and he’ll like it. If he were an animal Kyle says he would be a shark because he loves the ocean and because sharks are the most dominant things in the water. Before Cougar Quest begins Kyle plans on taking a road trip down to the Oregon coast and working in the Registrar’s Office. “I have a feeling this summer is going to be a blast,” Kyle says. “See you then!” |

Lacey has lived in several interesting places. She has lived in Louisiana, South Carolina, Germany, and Yelm, WA. Her favorite place was South Carolina because that is where her family is. Lacey hopes to be an entertainment news anch or and says maybe you’ll see her on television in the future. Before Cougar Quest begins she plans to work at McDonalds in her hometown. Lacey’s favorite TV show is Wild n’ Out, and her favorite movies are Rudy, Mulan 1 and 2, and Forrest Gump. Her fav orite sports are basketball, track and field, and golf. The last book she read for pleasure is the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. She says she loved the movie as well. Lacey has three pets, a Pomeranian dog and two goldfish that are a year old. Their names are Mocha and Goldie. Lacey enjoys basketball, singing and karaoke but her three favorite things to do are listen to music, dance, and play her old school Nintendo. The games she enjoys playing are the classic games, Super Mario 3, Dr. Mario, Duck Hunt, and Tetris. She loves listening to all genres of music including Hip-Hop, Alternative Rock, Gospel, Rap, Pop, R&B, Indie, and Techno. She says mostly if the music has a good beat and she can dance to it, it’s a plus. “Dancing is so much fun,” Lacey says. “I love busting out random moves like the robot and I am currently learning how to moonwalk so look out f or that!” |

Laurel Dube Laurel, whose nickname is Dube, plans on hanging out with her mom and dad at home and visiting family in Montana before Cougar Quest begins. She also plans on learning how to drive a tractor. Her favorite hobby is yoga because it is so relaxing and because she gets to listen to cool music. Laurel’s favorite sports are volleyball, soccer, basketball, and shuffleboard. She also enjoys Pilates, running and reading. Her favorite TV show is Arrested Development and her favorite movie is Garden State. Laurel’s favorite food is pizza and s’mores and she says she is definitely a night owl. Laurel says, “My motto is everything happens for a reason so make the best of it.” |

Leah is a fun and energetic student. She loves to work with youth and in the community. For one year she was her hometown queen and volunteered f or numerous community organizations before moving to Pullman to attend school. When she is not studying hard, Leah enjoys scrapbooking, road trips, sledding in the winter, going to the beach in the summer, reading, laughing, and volunteering. On campus she is involved as a community assistant and social chair for her residence hall. She will be a resident advisor next year. Leah hopes to become an elementary school principal and wants to travel outside the U.S., learn to play tennis, and get one of her children’s books published. The last book she read f or pleasure is Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. Her favorite TV shows are American Idol and her fav orite movies are Hotel Rwanda and My Girl. Her favorite music is Jack Johnson and Gavin DeGraw. Leah spends her free time being with her family and boyfriend and will be going home to be with her family and work at a coffee shop before Cougar Quest begins. She has many favorite childhood memories with her brother, who is her best friend. Leah has seen Julia Roberts in Las Vegas and her favorite dish is anything Italian with her all time favorite food being fettucini alfredo. Leah has had a pet dog named Daisy since she was 10 years old. |

Lia comes from a small town with a population of 305. Her graduating class in high school was 23 students. Lia’s nicknames are Punky and Chief. Her favorite hobby is having long talks with friends over a good cup of coffee. She loves a strong cup of coffee, like a tall non-fat, ice vanilla latte. Coffee, coffee, coffee (Starbucks) is one of Lia’s hobbies, with sports, reading and learning being the others. Chocolate is Lia’s favorite food and she asks what can’t it solve? Lia says she is good at being clumsy and she has visited 13 different countries. The best thing about that is trying new, exotic, native foods. Favorite TV show for Lia is America’s Next Top Model and her favorite movies are Crash, Shakespeare in Love, Sandlot, and Mighty Ducks. Her favorite music is Sarah McLachlan, Tracy Chapman and Sheryl Crow. If she could be an animal Lia says she would be a panda because they are so squish able looking. Right now Pullman is her home away from home Lia says, “Just you wait, during your stay it will definitely become yours as well.” |

Michael, whose nicknames include Mike or Mikey will be working at his current job in Pullman before Cougar Quest begins. In his free time he does lots of things, including working out with weights, playing basketball, hanging out with good friends, watching movies, and maybe playing video games. Favorite movies for Michael include Troy, Mighty Ducks 1, 2 and 3, Disney movies, Gladiat or, and Equilibrium. Michael’s faorite TV shows are The OC, Smallville, UFC, Family Guy and 24. Hip hop, Alternative Rock, Rock, and some country are Michael’s favorite music style. His favorite sports are football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and tennis. Michael’s favorite food is Mac N’ Cheese with tuna. He says it’s the perfect combination of protein, carbs, and calcium. Michael has one pet, a little Yorkshire dog named Lucky. Lucky has lots of energy all the time and never wants to sleep or rest, waking Michael up in the morning to play. Michael loves his dog. If Michael could be an animal however, he says he would be a lion. He says, “They are fierce, passionate, protective, lazy, powerful, and king of the jungle.” |

Morgen Maness Morgen, who has nicknames of Morg and Morgana plans on studying abroad in Thailand and traveling to Japan before Cougar Quest begins. She has lived in many cities but her favorites were Ewa Beach, HI and Washington D.C. Her favorite sports are volleyball, track and field. She also enjoys outdoor sports like camping, water skiing and hiking. Morgen also likes shoe shopping, intramural sports, reading mysteries, and dancing. Her favorite TV shows are Extreme Home Makeover, That 70’s Show, and Everybody Loves Raymond. For movies, Morgen loves anything with a Chevy chase, Footloose and Dirty Dancing. She enjoys all kinds of music but likes hip hop, rap, R&B, oldies, country, and guitar. Morgen has one dog and two cats. She says she loves cats. An odd job Morgen had was scooping ice cream at Baskin Robbins. She says, “Best job ever!” |

Phillip Aasen Hometown: Olympia, WA
Before Cougar Quest Begins Phillip plans to go to Haiti on a mission trip, hang out and program computers. His favorite TV shows are M*A*S*H, Star Trek and House. Favorite movies of his are Lord of the Rings and Pride and Prejudice. His favorite music is Jars of Clay and Five Iron Frenzy. He enjoys sports, computers, strategy games, swing dancing, poker, and Super Smash Brothers. Phillip has more than two years of experience swing dancing. He is at his best at night and likes to sleep in. Phillip’s favorite food is Chicago style pizza. Finally, if he were an animal Phillip says he would be a penguin because “they’re always dressed nice and are exceedingly skilled in the right environment.” |

Sallie Nevitt Sallie, whose twin sister is Hannah, has the nickname of Nevitt because people can’t tell her and her sister apart. Sallie says watch out because her twin sister is a Cougar Quest Camp Counselor as well. Before Cougar Quest begins she will be traveling to Rome with her sister to study abroad f or six weeks to learn Italian. Sallie wants to be a CIA analyst and her fav orite TV show is CSI (Crime Scene Investigation). She also enjoys American Idol and reality TV. Her fav orite movies are Pirates of the Caribbean and The Count of Monte Cristo. Classic rock and 80’s music is her fav orite. The last book Sallie read f or pleasure was Pride and Prejudice. Hobbies for Sallie include watching Mariner baseball, trading and outdoor sports. Sallie does not have any pets because she is a student but says that if she were an animal she would be a golden retriever. Sallie is good at giving tours of campus and spends her free time doing homework. In five years she thinks she will be in graduate school. The afternoon is when Sallie is at her best and her motto is ‘don’t stop believing.’ This will be Sallie’s third summer at Cougar Quest and she says, “For my returnees I can’t wait to see you again, and for the first-timers I can’t wait to meet you!” |

Sarah, whose nickname is Sarah Lee, loves living in a small community as big cities are not for her, she says. As a football and basketball cheerleader and student body president in high school, Sarah has a lot of leadership experience. With her major Sarah hopes to later get a masters in Administration. Her younger brother, Andrew inspired her to go into education and while he is a handful he keeps her on her toes. Sarah fluently speaks Spanish and has her grandparents to thank for that as it has been extremely helpful she says. Before coming to Cougar Quest Sarah plans on working back at home at her dad’s grocery store Lep-Re-Kon, and watching her little brother play baseball. Favorite TV shows for Sarah include Friends and deal or no deal. Sweet Home Alabama and Walk the Line are her favorite movies. Her favorite music genre is country and her favorite stars are Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks and Carrie Underwood. Sarah’s interests include tutoring, babysitting and watching baseball. While she is a Mariner’s fan her favorite player has always been Alex Rodriguez she says. Sarah is at her very best in the morning after she’s had her Starbuck’s latte. “My motto is put 110 percent into all you do,” Sarah says, “or don’t do it at all!” |

Yasmeen has had the chance to visit India about four times as her parents are from India, and each time has been a phenomenal experience. One of the coolest things about India other than the food is the culture, she says. The people there are so sincere and they wear beautiful clothing. Yasmeen loves to cook and has learned how to cook some of her favorite Indian dishes from her mom. Her all time favorite dish is homemade cheese in a creamy garlic tomato sauce. Yasmeen also speaks urdu, a language spoken in India, which she learned from her parents. Yasmeen has two sisters, one older and one younger, making her the middle child. She hopes to have a job as a pharmaceutical sales representative in the future. Currently, she works for Red Bull energy drink in her spare time. She does all of their marketing for the campus. Next year she will be working for Dell Computers as a campus representative, and is very excited. But before that and even before Cougar Quest begins Yasmeen will be in summer school. Her favorite TV shows are American Idol and Desperate Housewives. Favorite movies are Legally Blonde and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. If she were an animal Yasmeen would be a bird because she has always wanted to know what it is like to fly. She enjoys all music and her interests include swimming, reading and jet skiing. “One of my favorite things to do is spend time in the sunshine,” Yaseem says. “Which means I love summer, so get ready campers- we are about to have the time of our lives!” |
