112: Reach out and Multi-Touch...The Computer Screen!

Touch_Computer_Screen.jpg
Multi-touch screens are becoming more popular and useful in computers. Work with a team of students to build a simple multi-touch display and learn the basics of its operation. You will assemble the hardware, install the necessary software, and experiment with the available programs that use this technology. If time permits the whole class may collaborate to assemble and build a next level multi-touch display that allows for direct interaction with the computer screen.

Research/Teaching Interest: Engineering Education
Before CQ: building these displays with my kids to try them out!
Interests/Hobbies: Kenpo Karate & Electric Vehicles Summer Memory: Waterskiing with friends and catching fish by hand in the shallow water
Life goal: encourage more young people to pursue engineering and development creative problem-solving skills
Other notes: I grew up on a farm with my twin brother. We were driving at age 9 and welding and building most anything by age 7. We built more things that didn't work before we were 15 than many people build in a lifetime. I'm a Star Trek: The Next Generation fan. I really enjoy high jumping, but I'm a little old for it now, so I get the fun out of coaching. My own best jump was 6'8" when I was about 25 years old. I had a young physics teacher when I was a senior - she frequently mentioned cool experiments we could do "if" we had something. So we usually found what we needed in a couple of days and helped her make it happen. Being active in the class was the best part.
